Peer Assisted Liaison (PAL)

The Peer Assisted Liaison (PAL) program is a peer based service that offers support services to members who are diagnosed with mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders.

Certified Recovery Peer Specialists are adults who are in recovery themselves that have completed the necessary requirements regarding experience, training and testing in order to qualify for certification with the State of Florida Certification Board. Peer specialist’s play a unique and valuable role in supporting the recovery of their peers. Because of their life experience, peer specialists have expertise that professional training cannot replicate.

PAL is an interactive program that focuses on ongoing, self determined, recovery. Peer support is based on relationships in which each person is considered equal. The right of an individual to make their own choices and decisions regarding recovery is highly respected. Peer support is focused on health and recovery rather than on illness and disability.

PAL offers members help with identifying needed resources and offer referrals to services that include but are not limited to: psychiatric, mental health counseling, medical, dental, optometry, SSI and SSDI representation, public transportation services, and support groups.

PAL also provides support by offering to attend any office visits or support groups with members, and assist members on how to advocate for themselves during these visits.

PAL collaborates with family members and guardians to reach member driven goals.

PAL helps members reconnect with a healthy social network and provides education about mental health to develop skills that promote recovery.

PAL aims to achieve for members:
• Significantly more time spent in the community
• Reduced inpatient service use
• Improved relationship with providers
• Improved sense of empowerment and recovery

These services are Sarasota County wide with specialists working in both north and south county. To learn more about PAL please contact Mandy Feldmann at mfeldmann@mhcci.com.
