Many people who experience mental illness no longer need lengthy stays in psychiatric facilities. New medications and therapy permit people with serious mental illness (SMI) to return to their communities.
A return to the community does not always mean returning to an active life. Without appropriate services, like those offered at MHCCI, social isolation, unemployment, boredom, depression, and even delinquency can occur. MHCCI’s community-based wellness centers meet a critical need for direct, non-medical support services, activities, and programs, designed to reduce and prevent the need for hospitalization.
