SARASOTA: Donor investment and partnership support from two area private foundations will enable recovery program advancements at Mental Health Community Centers. The Wilson Wood Foundation awarded $20,000 for services at Beacon House in Venice and Anchor House in North Port, and the Heron Creek Community Foundation awarded $5,000 in service funding to Anchor House in North Port. These awards provide opportunities for members attending programs at those facilities to participate in Wellness programs utilizing the national Substance Abuse and Mental Health Associations’ (SAMSHA) Evidence-Based initiatives. Members also receive personalized assistance from Certified Recovery Peer Specialists and work with Supported Employment Specialists to reenter the workforce.
The Wilson Wood Foundation is a private foundation which has been distributing grants since 1983 and its focus is to address Human Service Program Needs in the Sarasota/Manatee area.
The mission of the Heron Creek Community Foundation in North Port is to financially support qualified charitable organizations which serve the citizens of North Port and improve the quality of life within the local community by other nonfinancial activities.
Founded as Sarasota Mental Health Resource Center in 1997, Mental Health Community Centers, Inc. has evolved from a resource center based in Sarasota to operating four Wellness Centers in Sarasota, North Port, Venice and Arcadia. Mental Health Community Centers’ Wellness Centers provide a holistic approach to mental health recovery through SAMHSA evidenced-based wellness programs.
