April 2014 — Hi everyone my name is Judy, and I’m a proud member of Beacon House. I came there during a period of isolation and deep depression. Going to Beacon was the best decision I ever made. The people are extraordinarily friendly and caring. I also found resources I wouldn’t normally have found on my own.
There are many different daily programs and activities to bring us into the mainstream. If we need help with education, referrals, or finding a doctor, the staff is there to give support in a positive, caring and encouraging environment.
When I first went to beacon House, I came there to get. Now I go to Beacon house to give. Through this I feel I’ve been made whole. There’s an underlying feeling of magic there that I have not been able to find anywhere else.
For close to a year, I have been leading a peer- to peer topic discussion group. We cover many issues like coping with stress, how to find happiness, anxiety issues, co- dependency, and various topics on how to deal with mental illness.
I am gaining more energy, motivation, and hope each day. Being a member of the Beacon House has given me a new outlook, and I have many new friends who care, and we are one big, happy family. The magic of Beacon House keeps me going back.
