Participating in social and public events is an important aspect in helping people who are dealing with a variety of mental health issues achieve and stay on their road to recovery. Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation (SMH) recently assisted the Mental Health Community Centers (MHCC) in their mission with a $30,000 donation toward the purchase of a 2016 Ford 15-passenger van. The van is used daily to take MHCC clients to various events and functions in Sarasota County as part of their recovery process.

“Access to transportation is key to helping our clients avoid isolation and get involved in a wide variety of activities. This new van gives us 3,000 additional ‘seats’ a year,” explained Jeff Standring, executive director of MHCC. “It is this kind of collaboration and partnership with the Healthcare Foundation that enables MHCC to continue to save lives, heal families, and foster a healthy community.”

Added Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation President Mason Ayres, “We are delighted to support this organization in its efforts to help their clients engage with others, both at the MHCC centers and at local events. It is important to the health and well-being of our overall community.”
