March 2011 — In order to be considered for this certification, applicants must have 1000 hours of direct contact with mental health consumers in some type of professional mental health setting, either as an employee or volunteer.
Cheri was also required to provide 3 recommendations from mental health specialists and had to complete a week-long, 40 hour course. Cheri looks forward to sharing her knowledge with other mental health consumers and would like to focus on peer advocacy, as well.
She has identified several local organizations where mental health consumers would benefit from her support while they try to navigate the mental health system.
Cheri will be offering peer recovery services to members of MHCC and looks forward to assisting her peers in developing WRAP’s or Wellness Recovery Action Plans. This will be a very valuable addition to MHCC’s programs. Way to go Cheri!
